Floor plan

Editing the floor plan on your phone

Updated

In short

Open your wedding in your phone's browser and tap Floor plan in the bottom bar. Tap an empty chair to seat a guest, drag names up from the Unassigned tray, and pinch to zoom. Press and hold a table to move it, and tap the padlock to lock the layout once the room is right. No app needed.

You can do almost everything on your phone that you can on a laptop. Lovely Seating runs in your phone’s browser, so there’s nothing to install. Sign in at the same address and your plan is right there.

No app needed

There’s no Lovely Seating app in the App Store or Google Play. The website is built to work on phones and tablets.

Find the floor plan

Tap Floor plan in the bottom bar. It’s one view: you seat guests and arrange the room in the same place. The toolbar at the top holds Auto-seat, Lock layout and Undo, with everything else under More (the three dots).

The first time you open it, a small tip sums things up: drag guests onto chairs, drag tables to move them, and lock the layout when you’re done. Tap the × to close it. It won’t come back.

Move around the room

  • Zoom: pinch with two fingers, or use − and + in the corner.
  • Pan: drag an empty part of the floor with one finger.
  • See everything: tap Fit to screen. On a phone the plan opens zoomed in enough to read, so you may need to pan to see the edges.

Chairs and initials only appear once you’re zoomed in a little. Zoom in further and short names like “Sarah M.” show beside each chair.

Seat guests

  1. 1

    Tap an empty chair

A small list called Seat a guest here opens. Search, and tap a name to put them in that exact chair. Or tap New guest, type a name and tap Add & seat: they’re added to your list and seated right there.
  2. 2

    Or tap a table

A toolbar appears above it. Tap Seat guests and the table’s panel slides up from the bottom. Tap Add guest, search, and tap names to seat them. The list stays open so you can add several people in a row.

A tap on a chair never starts a drag. Tap a seated guest for their toolbar (unseat, change table, details, add a +1 or remove). To move them, press their chair and slide your finger to another chair or table. Dropping them on someone else’s chair offers to swap the two, and dropping them on the Unassigned tray unseats them. See move or swap guests.

The Unassigned tray

Guests without a table wait in a tray at the bottom, just above the bottom bar. It reads Unassigned (12) · tap or drag to seat, with your own count.

  • Drag: press a name and drag it onto a table or a chair.
  • Tap: tap Assign next to a name and choose a table from the list.
  • Make room: tap the tray’s header to fold it away, and again to bring it back.

Arrange tables

The layout opens unlocked, so you can arrange tables straight away. When the room is right, tap the padlock (Lock layout) in the toolbar so a stray swipe never moves a table. Seating still works fully while it’s locked, and tapping a table or guest opens their details. Your choice is remembered for that plan on that device.

  • Move a table: press and hold it for a moment, then drag. Or tap it once to select it, then drag.
  • Resize or rotate: tap a table to select it, then use the handles, or Rotate in its toolbar.
  • Add tables and objects: tap the + button on the floor plan. A sheet opens with table shapes, venue objects and Add several tables….
  • Delete: tap a table and choose Delete in its toolbar.

On a phone you can only select one item at a time. Double-tap a Text label to change its words. Lock the layout again when you’re done.

Undo on a phone

The Undo and Redo arrows sit in the top bar on the Floor plan screen. Version history isn’t shown on small screens. Open your plan on a larger screen to use it.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Lovely Seating app?

No. It's a website that works in your phone's browser. Add it to your home screen from the browser's share menu if you want an icon.

Do changes on my phone show up on my laptop?

Yes. Everything saves to your account, so open the same wedding on any device and you'll see the latest version.

Why won't a table move when I drag it?

Lock layout may be on. Tap the padlock in the toolbar to unlock it, then press and hold the table before dragging. A single quick drag on the floor pans the view instead.

The tray is covering my tables. What can I do?

Tap the Unassigned header to fold the tray away, then tap it again when you need it.

Can I print from my phone?

Yes. Tap Print in the bottom bar. Exports are a Pro feature, and on Free you see a watermarked preview.
