Using Lovely Seating on a phone or tablet

Updated

In short

Lovely Seating runs in your phone or tablet's web browser, so there's nothing to install. On a phone, the six screens move to a bottom bar: Home, Tables, Guests, Floor plan, Print and QR Code. Pinch to zoom the floor plan, tap a table to seat guests, and your changes sync to every device you sign in on.

You can plan your whole seating chart on a phone. Lovely Seating runs in your browser (Safari, Chrome and so on), so there’s no app to download. Sign in with the same account and you’ll see the same weddings on your phone, tablet and computer.

There’s no app in the App Store or Google Play

Lovely Seating is a web app. Just open lovelyseating.com and sign in. If you like, use your browser’s “Add to Home Screen” option to get an icon you can tap.

How the phone layout is different

A bottom bar instead of a sidebar

On a phone the six screens sit in a bar along the bottom with short names: Home, Tables, Guests, Floor plan, Print and QR Code. They match Overview, Table list, Guests, Floor plan, Print & Export and QR Code / Seat Finder on a computer.

Panels slide up from the bottom

Guest details and table details open as sheets from the bottom of the screen. Close one by tapping outside it or tapping the X. On Android, the Back button closes the top sheet too.

A slimmer top bar

To save room, the top bar shows fewer buttons on a phone. The plan menu shows just an icon, and Share becomes a small person-plus icon. Undo and Redo appear on the Floor plan screen. Version history, Preview chart and the Getting started checklist are only on larger screens, so use a tablet or computer for those. Open Print & Export from the Print tab instead.

Getting back to your weddings

There’s no sidebar on a phone, so tap your initials in the top-right corner and choose Your weddings to return to the dashboard and open a different wedding.

Seating guests by touch

  • Zoom and pan: pinch with two fingers to zoom the floor plan, and drag an empty part of the floor with one finger to move around.
  • Seat guests: tap an empty chair to pick someone by name from Seat a guest here, or drag a name from the tray at the bottom onto a chair. Tap a table and choose Seat guests in its toolbar to open its details sheet.
  • Move tables: press and hold a table for a moment and drag. Tap the padlock in the toolbar to lock the layout when you’re done, so tables stay put.
  • Auto-seat: works the same as on a computer. See how Auto-Seat works.

What’s easier on a bigger screen

Everything works on a phone, but a few jobs are more comfortable on a computer: importing a big spreadsheet, editing many guests at once, arranging a large room, and checking a printable chart before you send it to a print shop. Many couples build the plan on a laptop and use their phone for quick fixes as RSVPs come in.

Switching between devices

Your plan saves to your account automatically, so you can start on your laptop and carry on from your phone. If the same plan is open in two places, the older copy can’t overwrite newer changes. See working in two tabs or devices.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Lovely Seating app?

No. It's a web app that runs in your phone's browser, so there's nothing to install. You can add it to your home screen from your browser's share or menu button.

Will my changes show up on my laptop?

Yes. Your plan saves to your account, so it's the same on every device you sign in on.

Can I export or print from my phone?

Yes. Open the Print tab to preview your charts. With Pro you can download them from there too, though checking a large chart is easier on a bigger screen.

Where is version history on my phone?

The Version history button only appears on larger screens. Open your plan on a tablet or computer to use it.
