How autosave works

Updated

In short

There's no Save button. Every change saves to your account a moment after you make it, and the top bar shows Saving… and then All changes saved. If it says Changes not saved, your edits are still on screen: check your connection, click Retry, and keep the tab open until it saves.

You never need to save in Lovely Seating. Each time you add a guest, move a table or seat someone, the change saves to your account a moment later. Your plan is stored online, not in your browser, so you can open it on any phone, tablet or computer where you sign in.

Reading the save status

The status sits in the top bar of your wedding, next to the undo buttons:

  • Saving… with a spinner: a change is on its way.
  • All changes saved with a tick: everything you’ve done is stored. You can close the tab.
  • Changes not saved with a Retry button: the last save didn’t go through.

On a phone the words are hidden to save space. You’ll see a spinning icon while it saves and a red cloud icon if a save fails. When everything is saved, the icon simply goes away.

If it says Changes not saved

Don’t panic, and don’t close the tab. Your changes are still on screen and haven’t been thrown away. They just haven’t reached our servers yet.

  • Check your connection. Venue Wi-Fi and trains are the usual culprits. Once you’re back online, click Retry.
  • Keep working if you like. Your next change tries to save everything again.
  • Wait for All changes saved before closing the tab. If you try to leave with unsaved changes, your browser asks you to confirm.

Still stuck after a few tries? Contact us and tell us what the message says.

Other messages you might see

“This wedding was just changed somewhere else”

Someone saved a newer version first: you in another tab, or a collaborator. We never let an older copy overwrite a newer one, so we load the latest version instead and ask you to redo your last change. Read working in two tabs or devices.

“Someone else is editing right now”

A collaborator, or another tab of yours, is editing this wedding. Click Request edit to take a turn. See one editor at a time.

“You have view-only access to this plan.”

The owner shared this wedding with you as a viewer, so changes aren’t saved. Ask them to make you an editor.

“This wedding was deleted.”

The wedding was deleted, perhaps from the dashboard in another tab. If it happened in the last few seconds, the dashboard’s Undo can bring it back. See delete a plan or wedding and undo.

Extra peace of mind

Autosave keeps your latest version. To go back to an earlier one, use version history. For your own copy on your computer, use Download backup.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Save button?

No. Every change saves automatically a moment after you make it. Look for All changes saved in the top bar.

Is my plan saved in my browser?

No. It's saved to your account online, so you can sign in on any device and pick up where you left off. Clearing your browser data won't delete it.

Can I close the tab while it says Saving…?

Wait a second for All changes saved first. If you close it too early, your browser warns you so you don't lose the last change.

Does Lovely Seating work offline?

Not fully. You can keep making changes for a short while, but they only save once you're back online. Keep the tab open until you see All changes saved.
