Undo Auto-Seat and re-run it
Updated
In short
Click Undo auto-seat in the Here's how I seated everyone summary to reverse the whole run, or press Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z afterwards. Running Auto-Seat again only seats guests who still have no table. To start completely fresh, click Unassign all first, then Auto-seat. A Before auto-seat version is also saved each time.
Auto-Seat is safe to try. You can always reverse it, run it again, or clear everything and start over.
Undo the run you just did
Straight after Auto-Seat, the summary Here’s how I seated everyone opens. Click Undo auto-seat and everyone it seated goes back to unassigned. You’ll see “Auto-seat undone”. Guests you’d seated yourself aren’t touched.
Closed the summary already? Press ⌘ Z on a Mac or Ctrl Z on Windows, or tap the Undo arrow at the top of the screen. The whole run is one undo step, as long as you do it before making lots of other changes.
Run it again
Click Auto-seat again whenever you like. It only seats guests who still don’t have a table. That makes it handy for:
- guests whose RSVP just changed to Attending or Maybe,
- people you’ve just added to the list, and
- new tables you’ve added to make room.
If everyone who’s coming already has a seat, or every table is full, Auto-Seat says so. If the only guests left haven’t replied yet, it offers to include them.
Start completely fresh
- 1
Open the More menu
On the Floor plan screen, click More (the three dots) in the toolbar. - 2
Choose Unassign all
Confirm Unassign everyone? by clicking Unassign all. Every guest leaves their table. - 3
Click Auto-seat
Auto-Seat now seats everyone from scratch, using your current rules.
Unassign all clears locked guests too
Want to keep a few key people? Skip Unassign all. On the Guests screen, tick the guests you want to re-seat and click Unassign in the bar that appears, then run Auto-Seat.
Get back to an earlier version
Each time Auto-Seat changes your chart, a version called Before auto-seat is saved first. With Pro, open Version history (the clock button at the top of the screen) to restore it, even days later. See version history and restore.
Before you re-run, check these
- RSVPs: only Attending and Maybe guests are seated.
- Rules: add Must sit with or Keep apart from where the last run fell short. See keep guests together or apart.
- Tables: mark any table you want left empty as Reserved — keep empty.
Frequently asked questions
Can I undo Auto-Seat after closing the summary?
Yes. Press Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z, or use the Undo arrow, before you make many more changes. With Pro you can also restore the Before auto-seat version from Version history.
Why does re-running Auto-Seat change nothing?
It only seats guests without a table. If everyone is seated, or the tables are full, there's nothing left to do. Use Unassign all first to start over.
Does undo history survive a page refresh?
No. Undo covers changes made since you opened the plan, and switching to another seating plan clears it. Version history (Pro) keeps saved versions for longer.
