Keyboard shortcuts
Updated
In short
Press Cmd+Z (Mac) or Ctrl+Z (Windows) to undo, and Cmd+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y to redo. On the floor plan, arrow keys nudge the selected table, Shift+arrow moves it further, Delete or Backspace removes it, and Esc clears the selection. They pause while Lock layout is on or you're typing.
Lovely Seating has a small set of shortcuts that save time on a computer. None of them fire while your cursor is in a text box, so typing a guest’s name never moves a table by accident.
Undo and redo (any screen)
- Undo: ⌘ Z on a Mac, Ctrl Z on Windows.
- Redo: ⌘ ⇧ Z on a Mac, Ctrl Y or Ctrl Shift Z on Windows.
These work anywhere inside a wedding. In a text field they undo your typing instead, as usual. You can also use the Undo and Redo buttons at the top. See undo and redo.
On the floor plan
Click a table or venue object first to select it. Then:
- ← → ↑ ↓ nudge the selection a little. Hold ⇧ Shift to nudge five times further.
- Delete or Backspace removes the selection. If guests are seated at a table, we ask first, and those guests go back to the unseated list. A Deleted message with Undo appears either way.
- Esc clears the selection.
- ⇧ Shift-click, ⌘-click or Ctrl-click adds an item to the selection or removes it, so you can nudge several things together.
- Hold ⇧ Shift while dragging to place an item freely, without snapping to its neighbours.
These floor-plan keys never fire while you’re typing in a field, or while a panel or guest picker is open.
Unlock the layout first
On the guest list
- Tick one guest’s checkbox, then ⇧ Shift-click another to select everyone in between. Handy for editing 30 guests at once. See edit many guests at once.
Everywhere else
- Esc closes the open window, panel or menu.
- When renaming a wedding or a seating plan, Enter saves and Esc cancels.
- In this help center, ⌘ K (Mac), Ctrl K (Windows) or / opens search.
Frequently asked questions
Why didn't Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z undo my last change?
Your cursor was probably in a text box, where the shortcut undoes your typing instead. Click on an empty part of the page and try again, or use the Undo button at the top.
Why won't the arrow keys move my table?
Check that Lock layout is off, that the table is selected, and that the table isn't locked on its own. Close any open panel, and click the table again if a button or menu still has focus.
Are there shortcuts on a phone or tablet?
Only if you use a keyboard with it. On touch screens, use the Undo and Redo buttons and drag, pinch and tap instead.
