Version history and restore

Updated

In short

Lovely Seating saves a snapshot of your whole wedding every few minutes while you edit, plus one before each Auto-Seat. Click the clock icon in the top bar to open Version history, then click Restore next to the snapshot you want. Your current state is saved first as Before restore, so you can switch back. It's a Pro feature.

Version history is your safety net for bigger mistakes. If a seating session went sideways, or someone changed things you didn’t want changed, you can roll the whole wedding back to how it looked earlier.

Restoring needs Pro

On the Free plan, clicking the clock icon shows the upgrade options. Collaborators on a Pro wedding can use version history too.

Restore an earlier version

  1. 1

    Open Version history

In your wedding, click the clock icon in the top bar, next to the undo and redo arrows. Its label is Version history.
  2. 2

    Pick a snapshot

The newest is at the top. Each one shows the date and time, and how long ago it was for the last 30 days.
  3. 3

    Click Restore

A window asks Restore this version? Click Restore to confirm. You’ll see Version restored.

What’s in a snapshot

A snapshot is a copy of your whole wedding: the guest list and every seating plan, with their tables, seats and layout. Restoring one replaces all of it, not just the screen you’re on.

Restoring rolls back everything after that point

Any change made after the snapshot is replaced, including other people’s work. If you only need to fix one thing, it’s often quicker to fix it by hand or use undo.

When snapshots are saved

  • As you work: at most one every 3 minutes while changes are being saved. They’re labelled Snapshot, and the newest is Latest snapshot.
  • Before Auto-Seat: labelled Before auto-seat, so you can always get back to your hand-made seating.
  • Before a restore: labelled Before restore. It’s your way back if the restore wasn’t what you wanted.

We keep the 25 most recent snapshots for each wedding. Older ones are removed as new ones arrive. If the list says No snapshots yet, keep editing and they’ll appear.

Changed your mind after restoring?

Restoring clears the undo history, so the Undo arrow won’t reverse it. Instead, open Version history again and restore the snapshot labelled Before restore.

When you can’t restore

  • Viewers see “You have view-only access to this plan.” Only the owner and editors can restore.
  • Someone else is editing: you’ll see “Someone else is editing right now — request edit access to restore a version.” Click Request edit first. See one editor at a time.
  • On a phone: the clock icon is hidden on small screens. Open the wedding on a tablet or computer to restore.

See how this fits with autosave and undo on our autosave, undo and version history page.

Frequently asked questions

How far back does version history go?

It keeps the 25 most recent snapshots for each wedding. While you're actively editing, that's roughly the last hour or more of work; if you edit a little each day, it reaches back further.

Can I restore just one seating plan?

No. A snapshot covers the whole wedding, so restoring rolls back the guest list and every seating plan together.

Can I restore a deleted seating plan?

Yes, if a snapshot from before you deleted it is still in the list. Restoring it brings the plan back, along with everything else from that moment.

Is version history the same as undo?

No. Undo steps back through your last few changes while the wedding is open. Version history keeps saved snapshots you can return to later, even after closing the browser.
