How the calculator works
Fitting tables into a room comes down to floor area. The calculator takes your room's length × width— in feet or meters — subtracts space for your dance floor, then divides what's left by the footprint of the table sizeyou pick. Each table's footprint already includes its chairs and the room to walk around it.
A 60-inch round with chairs and circulation needs about 100 sq ft; a 72-inch round about 130. Long banquet tables land between 90 and 110. Prefer to think per guest? Allow roughly 12 sq ft per guest for rounds, 10 for long tables.
Choose a dance floor size and the calculator reserves it before working out the rest — small (~200 sq ft), medium (~350) or large (~450), from an intimate floor to room for a big crowd.
How much space does each guest need?
- Seated dinner, round tables — about 12 sq ft per guest.
- Seated dinner, long tables — about 10 sq ft per guest (they pack a little tighter).
- Ceremony / theater seating — about 6–8 sq ft per person, since there are no tables.
- Cocktail / standing — about 6 sq ft per guest.

What else takes floor space
Your guest tables aren't the whole room. When you size a venue, leave space for:
- Dance floor — ~300–450 sq ft for a mid-size wedding.
- Bar, buffet or food stations — plus a queue in front of each.
- DJ or band, and the cake, gift and guestbook tables.
- Walkways — clear 3 ft aisles and 4–5 ft between tables.

How many tables fit in a room?+
As a rule of thumb, allow about 12 square feet per guest for a seated dinner with round tables (10 sq ft for long tables) — that already includes the tables, chairs and space to move. Divide your room's usable area by that number for guests, then by your seats-per-table for tables. The calculator above does it instantly and reserves space for a dance floor.
How big a room do I need for 100 wedding guests?+
Roughly 1,200 square feet just for seated round tables, or about 1,650 sq ft once you add a dance floor — for example a 40 × 42 ft room. Add more for a bar, buffet, cake table and DJ. Always confirm the usable floor area with your venue.
How much space does each guest need at a reception?+
Plan for about 10–12 square feet per guest for a seated dinner. Round tables need a little more room than long banquet tables. Theater or ceremony seating is tighter at 6–8 sq ft per person because there are no tables.
How much room does a wedding dance floor need?+
A typical wedding dance floor is around 300–450 square feet (roughly 15 × 20 to 20 × 20 ft), enough for about a third of your guests to dance at once. The calculator lets you reserve a small (~200 sq ft), medium (~350) or large (~450) floor before working out how many tables fit.
Is this an exact capacity?+
