PerfectTablePlan — often written “Perfect Table Plan”, and sometimes searched as “Perfect Table Planner” — is one of the longest-running pieces of seating-chart software: a capable desktop app for weddings and events, from small dinners to very large galas. It’s a genuinely good tool, so this is an honest comparison, not a take-down. Here’s the lay of the land:

The official website is perfecttableplan.com — that’s where you download the Windows or Mac installer and buy a licence key. Every edition has a free trial, but without a licence key you can’t save, export or print plans with more than 30 guests, so a full wedding needs at least the $29.95 Home licence. If you’d rather not download anything, Lovely Seating runs in your browser and is free to build at any guest count.

You download and install it, import your guests, set seating rules and let it assign seats, all on one computer. The flow:

• Download and install it on your Windows or Mac computer.
• Import your guest list from a CSV, Excel or text file, and set who’s coming.
• Set up the floor plan — its size in metres or feet — then add tables and proximity rules for who must sit together and who to keep apart.
• Auto-assign seats and let it place everyone honouring your rules, then fine-tune by hand.
• Print your floor plan, seating chart, place cards, escort cards and badges — all offline.

The engine is strong. The friction is in how and where you use it:

• It’s a desktop install. Windows or Mac only — no iPad, Chromebook or phone, and your plan lives in a file on your computer.
• Sharing means passing a file. There’s no shared online plan you and your partner or planner can both open from any device.
• The interface is dated. Powerful, but a busy three-pane desktop app that takes some learning.
• You install before you plan. There’s a trial, but you’re downloading software rather than opening a tab and starting.

To be clear: PerfectTablePlan already does automatic, rule-aware seating well — that’s not where Lovely Seating is different. The difference is how and where you work. • A “find your seat” page for guests. Publish a guest page + QR code so guests search their name and see their table — and embed it on your wedding website (Pro).
• Free to build, no cap on guests. The free plan covers one wedding with unlimited guests and Auto-Seat; a one-time $39 Pro unlocks exports, place cards, the guest QR page and collaboration with your partner or planner — no subscription.

Both tools track RSVPs and meals. The difference is that in Lovely Seating everything lives in your account and stays joined to the seat — so a plus-one, a dietary flag or a late decline updates your plan and your caterer counts at the same time. It matches the columns for you, links plus-ones, and flags duplicates before anything is added.
