Import your guest list with AI

Updated

In short

Open Guests, click Import and choose Let AI do it. Upload a CSV or paste your list, however messy. AI reads the names, households, groups, kids and plus-ones, asks three to five quick questions, and shows a summary to confirm. Then we import everyone, add tables and seat them with Auto-Seat. The AI never sees emails or phone numbers.

AI import turns the guest list you already have into a seated chart in about a minute. Hand it the list exactly as it is — families in one cell, sides and groups in odd columns, notes everywhere — and it works out who’s who. The seating itself is still done by our rule-based Auto-Seat, so you get the same chart you’d get by hand, just without the typing.

Import with AI

  1. 1

    Open the Import window

Go to Guests, click Import, then choose Let AI do it at the top.
  2. 2

    Give it your list

Choose Upload a file for a CSV, TSV or text file (save Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers as CSV), or Paste a list. Then click Read my list. It takes about 10–20 seconds.
  3. 3

    Answer a few questions

You’ll get three to five tap-to-answer questions, like who shouldn’t sit together, who sits at the head table, or whether the kids sit with their parents. Skip anything you’re not sure about. The last card, “Anything else I should know?”, takes a note in your own words.
  4. 4

    Check the summary and build

The summary shows what will happen, for example “152 guests · 61 households · 9 groups · 4 rules · 16 round tables of 10”. Change the table shape or seats, remove any rule, then click Build my chart.

When it’s done you see the Auto-Seat recap, with Undo auto-seat if you want to seat people yourself. Your guests and tables stay either way.

What it understands

  • Couples and families in one cell, like “John & Jane Smith” or “The Lee family”. They become a household that sits together.
  • Plus-ones (“+1”, “and guest”), linked to the guest who brings them.
  • Group, side and relationship columns, kids, meal choices, RSVPs, and tables your list already assigns.

It adds to your list: names already on it are skipped, like in the normal import. It handles up to 500 guests at a time. Learn more about households and how Auto-Seat uses your rules.

Your guests’ privacy

Only names and group labels go to our AI provider, Anthropic, to organise the list, and they aren’t used to train AI models. Email addresses, phone numbers and street addresses are set aside on your device before anything is sent — the AI never sees them. Emails and phone numbers are then added to the right guests in your list (the summary has a checkbox if you’d rather not); addresses aren’t imported.

If AI can’t read your list

Sometimes a list is too unusual. You’ll see “Let’s do this one by hand” with Map the columns myself, which opens the normal import with your list already loaded. Nothing is added until you confirm. See Import a CSV or paste a list.

Frequently asked questions

Does the AI decide where people sit?

No. AI reads your list and turns your answers into seating rules. Auto-Seat, our rule-based seating, places everyone, and you can move anyone afterwards.

Can I use AI import more than once?

Yes. Each wedding gets 3 AI imports on the Free plan and 10 on Pro. Runs that fail don't count, and the normal import is always unlimited.

What if I already have guests?

AI import adds to your list. Anyone whose name is already there is skipped, and guests who already have a seat stay put.

Can I import an Excel file directly?

Save it as CSV first (File, then Save as or Download, then CSV). You can also copy the cells and paste them.
